The city and its healing waters have a very ancient origin. In prehistoric times, the valley of Fiuggi was a lake that, with the lacustrine sedimentation and volcanism, it is in time filled with a layer of silt, clay, tuff and ash. Today, the water flows through the volcanic layer, enriching itself with benefic components: the secret of the properties of Water Fiuggi is thus in its composition.

The Water that breaks the stone: this is what Michelangelo, a kidney stone suffer, wrote in a letter dated 1549. Its one of the oldest and most nenowned testimonies of the benefits derived from drinking Fiuggi Water. The story recounts how kings, noblemen, and ambassadors were benefited by drinking the miraculous water because it eased their pain. Pope Bonifacio VIII, who was born in Ciociaria and knew the Fiuggi source well, also used this healthy water. Over 187 payment orders for transport of the water from Fiuggi to Rome are well documented in the Pope’s accounting registries. In more recent times, other famous notables successfully treated themselves by drinking Fiuggi water: from Papa Pio X to Giovanni Giolitti, to Benedetto Croce and Alcide De Gasperi. The expression “the water that breaks the stone”, used by Michelangelo on purely observational basis, today finds a sound scientific explanation. The Source

​The Fiuggi water basin is situated inside the massif of the Ernici Mountains. The water from the Fiuggi source originates at a temperature of 12.4 °C. The water comes out from two different sources: the source of Boniface VIII and the source Anticolana. In its alternation of open and closed spaces and lush vegetation, the sources park is the perfect place to indulge in the wellness of one’s body.
